Dia Mirza and Vaibhav Rekhi Tied The Knot in a Surreal Wedding Ceremony!

“Love doesn’t make the world go ’round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.” ~ Franklin P. Jones

While Dia tried her best to keep the wedding a hush-hush affair, it eventually made up to the gossip mongers and it did become the talk of the town well before they got engaged or married. However, Dia and Vaibhav managed to keep the wedding a simple yet surreal ceremony. Franklin rightly said that love doesn’t have to be so grand to turn the world around but so pure that you find happiness in the simple things that you do together. They indeed made it truer to believe.

Dia’s Take On Her Wedding Day

She had a lot to say about her wedding day festivities, and what her actual vision was for the day. Though she wanted a magical setting and a dreamy decor, she did not choose any avant-garde location or a destination wedding, in fact she chose the most intimate and perfect space for her simple and soulful ceremony. She tied the knot in her apartment garden where she has spent the past 19 years.

Not only this but she was also very proud to have been able to organize a completely sustainable ceremony without plastics or any waste. All the materials that were used were completely biodegradable and natural.

According to Dia Mirza, the best part about her wedding was the Vedic ceremony and the woman priest, who conducted the ceremony. Indeed that was something that we don’t see usually.

She said, “I had never seen a woman performing a wedding ceremony until I attended my childhood friend Ananya’s wedding a few years ago. Ananya’s wedding gift to Vaibhav and me was to bring Sheela Atta who is her aunt and also a priestess, to perform the ceremony for us. She also painstakingly went through several hours of training to imbibe the essence of the scriptures so that she could assist Sheela Atta and translate the shlokas! It was such a privilege and a joy to be married this way! We do hope with all our heart that many more couples make this choice. For it is a woman’s heart that contains love, wonder, benediction, magical energy, tenderness and deep empathy for all that lives. It is time for women to own their agency, their divinity, their power and to redefine what is old and birth what is new. As Charles Bukowski said, “there is no lie in their fire.” So what can be more uplifting and empowering than to see the sacred fire within a woman’s heart and soul taking centre stage at a wedding? I am still overwhelmed by the magic of this one moment.” Not only this but they also said NO to ‘Kanyadaan’ and ‘Bidaai’. Because, as Dia rightly said that change surely begins with a choice, doesn’t it?

So, now you know it too, how soulful and simple was Dia Mirza’s wedding day, and no doubt it will hold these cherishable memories for the years to come.

Decorator’s Take On Dia’s Wedding Day

Though the decorators were the same as her first wedding team, however, the task here was completely different. This time the envisioned wedding was a simple yet beautiful ceremony with eco-friendly decoration ideas.

Dia Mirza tied the knot with Vaibhav Rekhi in a private ceremony on 15 February 2021. The simple and soulful ceremony was held in her garden where Dia spent most of her mornings for the last 19 years. It was a close-knit ceremony with a limited guest list of 60 people The micro wedding was highly personalized and curated, adhering to the privacy of the couple.

Being a connoisseur of eco-friendly living, Dia wanted the decor to be sustainable without any usage of plastic. Therefore Aashna incorporated in the decor were cut glass candle holders used on the dining table and even on the trees, brass plates, jute fabric, different types of candles, Diya jaalis to add glitter, and lastly loads of flowers. With an extension of Dia’s personality, Aashna handpicked brands and vendors that were homegrown and supported the ‘Made in India’ initiative. The flowers selected for the decor were all Indian hyperlocal flowers like mogra, rajnigandha, and shevanti ladis. The wedding ceremony witnessed decor highlights with a few heart-touching elements like the bells that were attached to the chairs for the guest to ring during Dia and Vaibhav’s pheras. There were personalized notes placed on the chairs for the guest to remind them of the important role they played in Dia and Vaibhav’s life.

The Wedding Couture

Dia is an epitome of simplicity and elegance, the wedding was designed to reflect her taste. The wedding attire she selected depicted her love for nature, she wore a beautiful Banarasi saree by Raw Mango, and to compliment it she wore some beautiful mogra on her hair. Her bridal entry was planned just in line with her persona. Dia made her sophisticated entry with her nephew and niece holding the fun signage – “Here comes your Bride” and a little girl holding a basket full of flower petals.

We all know that you have reached the end of the blog waiting to see some beautiful shots of the couple tying the knot. You will be mesmerized by the beauty of their dreamy wedding celebration.

Aishwarya and Himanshu Thailand Destination Wedding

‘When childhood lovers turned life partners in a beautiful home wedding set-up’

“The future for me is already a thing of the past. You were my first love and you will be my last” ― Bob Dylan

The Story

Aishwarya and Himanshu literally grew up together. They’ve known each other since they were in seventh grade! So you won’t be surprised to know where they met, at school. From being schoolmates, best friends to childhood lovers, teenage sweethearts and partners to this day, this couple saw it all, conquered everything and stuck together over all the years! Theirs is indeed a tale of timeless eternal love and certainly couple goals for new-age lovers.

The Proposal

When you’ve been with someone for that long, everything else just becomes about doing the needful when the time is right. Hence, even in their case, there was no planned proposal as such as they both knew they could handle the other for another lifetime. The decision to tie the knot was mutual. And they set out on the journey to becoming man and wife with the blessings of their families and loved ones.

The Wedding

Aishwarya and Himanshu wanted a very happening wedding to celebrate their journey from childhood lovers to life partners. And what better place than the picturesque setting of stunning Thailand to meet this dream?! Hence their fun, exquisite and meaningful marriage unfolded in the gorgeous milieu of Hua Hin, Thailand. Their wedding festivities kickstarted with a mehendi ceremony, followed by a heart-warming valentine’s dinner soiree. For this evening event, all the women wore red ensembles while the men followed the black dress code and must we say they all looked spectacular! This was then followed by a pool party, engagement ceremony, cocktail bash and finally the wedding ceremony.

Come d- day, which was one beautiful pastel affair, Aishwarya looked like a dream in an elegant Sabyasachi Mukherjee intricate peach lehenga. Himanshu, on the other hand, looked royal in a Rohit Bal brocade sherwani. The marriage rituals were carried out beautifully and the atmosphere was filled with joy and lightness. The highlight definitely was the bride and groom entry. Himanshu entered the venue atop a vintage car surrounded by baaratis and traditional Thai dancers, whereas Aishwarya, inspired by Cinderella, made her grand entry on a white horse chariot.

For this lovely couple, their destination wedding turned out to be exactly how they envisioned and they couldn’t be more grateful for this experience!

Praneet & Sonakshi Indore : ‘When childhood lovers turned life partners in a beautiful home wedding set-up’

“The future for me is already a thing of the past . You were my first love and you will be my last” ― Bob Dylan

Sonakshi and Praneet literally grew up together. They’ve known each other since they were nine years old! So you won’t be surprised to know where they met, at school. From being school mates, best friends to childhood lovers, teenage sweethearts and partners to this day, this couple saw it all, conquered everything and stuck together over all the years! Theirs is indeed a tale of timeless eternal love and certainly couple goals for new-age lovers.

When you’ve been with someone for that long, everything else just becomes about doing the needful when the time is right. Hence, even in their case, there was no planned proposal as such as they both knew they could handle the other for another lifetime. The decision to tie the knot was mutual. And they set out on the journey to become man and wife with the blessings of their families and loved ones.

The Wedding

Since both Sonakshi and Praneet work in the US, the families decided to get together and plan a dream wedding for their kids. For this they traveled to Mumbai and Delhi to source and personally pick the best vendors. As for the couple, technology was the real boon. They picked their outfits, sent measurements and looked into the details over numerous video calls.

Sonakshi and Praneet wanted a very intimate wedding with their closest ones in attendance. And what better place than home to meet this dream?! Hence their private and meaningful marriage began with a haldi ceremony. The bride kept it simple in a yellow salwar suit with minimal makeup.

Come d- day, which was one beautiful pastel affair. Sonakshi looked like a dream in an elegant Dolly J intricate pink lehenga Praneet on the other hand, looked royal in a Shantanu and Nikhil brocade sherwani. Akshaykumar & Shreya Mumbai : The Lockdown DIY Home Wedding

When two people in love decide to get married, it doesn’t matter if it’s in a 5-star hotel, at a beach or home. All that matters is they have the people they love and seek blessings from!

From wanting to have a big fat wedding to doing a humble ‘at home’ wedding, here is the story of two love birds who have known each other since high school!

How They Met

Shreya and Akshay both studied in NM college. They first saw each other ten years back.  Since both aspired to become Chartered Accountants, their paths kept crossing. From being in the same class in college to going to the same tutorials, they always kept bumping into each other. They even had the same set of friends! Finally, they decided to tie the nuptial knot after dating for 8.5 years. Ideally, they wanted to have a quintessential ‘band baaja baaraat’ type wedding, but God had different plans for them.

In the wake of the lockdown due to Covid-19, they decided to have an ‘at home’ wedding. From inviting 800 guests for a wedding at The Lalit to marrying in front of 20 close family members at Shreya’s house, their wedding was one roller-coaster ride!

The Wedding Story

Once they decided to get married, they had seven days to plan a home-wedding, with no outfit, no decorator, no garland, etc. Reminiscing her planning days, Shreya said “We truly understood the meaning of “Necessity is the mother of invention”. Since they couldn’t buy anything from outside, they made everything on their own. Yes! DIY decoration, garland etc.  For her outfit, she mixed and matched her blouse with her mother in laws outfit and teamed that up with her sisters wedding jewellery because where there is a will, there is a way!

The next seven days were spent in –

1. Making a DIY garland with artificial flowers and pearls which Akshay’s grandmother already had.

2. DIY decoration – including making a Mandap with 2 dupattas and a photo booth (best out of waste)

3. Making a DIY cardboard Black Jaguar for the groom’s entry because that was the only way he could have entered in one!

4. Making a DIY cardboard Doli for Shreya to enter in.

5. An 11-minute Virtual “Sangeet” which was a surprise for Shreya featuring dances from 25+ family members; ft. Modiji and SRK

The couple tied the knot amidst the blessing of near and dear ones along with few guests attending virtually. Thinking about how the marriage went, Shreya mentioned: “I learnt a valuable lesson that day – Sometimes we can find happiness even in the darkest of days!”

Now isn’t this a lovely story with a lesson for all of us. 🙂

Sushant & Pratha Mumbai : ‘When best friends turned lovers walked down the aisle, sustainable style’

“Love is a friendship that has caught fire.” – Ann Landers

Pratha and Sushant met each other at the Amazon Prime India office in Mumbai where Pratha was there to interview. Being a travel photographer who was seeking commercial work, Pratha’s interviewer was none other than Sushant! Soon they started collaborating over various projects and worked together for quite some time. Over time gradually, this working equation transformed into friendship. They started hanging out often, going on movies and drives together and even scouting partners for each other on matrimony sites and dating apps! All this, only to know that love can ultimately be found in your best friend.

The Proposal

Their proposal story is quite a unique one. Both were in Singapore on a work trip. Once when they were chilling together in the hotel room, Pratha was stuck to the TV to watch the India-Pakistan world cup match while Sushant being the exact opposite was decluttering the room, putting things back in place, cleaning and tidying up space. Suddenly he walked in from the other room and told Pratha, “I think we make great roommates.” She nodded and said “sure we do”, and he went and cleaned the leftover glasses from the night, then walked back to her again and said “maybe we should be roommates for life?” and that was it! Recalling this funny and quirky proposal, Pratha recalls, “It was my proposal, in the middle of a world cup match, with literally no drama. Exactly how I wanted.”

The Wedding

Sushant and Pratha were very sure from the beginning of the kind of marriage they wanted to have. It had to be a sustainable one! Hence, everything was centred around this concept. Pratha explains the idea behind this and says, “At least do the least bit you can. If you look around, you will get an alternative that is healthier, sustainable and has less carbon footprint. You gotta start somewhere!”

Hence their lovely four-day affair had eco-friendly elements and measures to cater to the same. Day one was the haldi at home, followed by the mehendi. This was an intimate affair with only the close ones in attendance. The bride and groom kept it simple in semi-casual attire as they were keener on grooving and enjoying the night away rather than managing their looks.

Day two was the day of the grand sangeet at Gallops, Mumbai. The fun and enjoyment of the first day continued more vigorously to the second day. The exquisite venue was done up in studded chandeliers, fairy lights and vibrant flowers and elevated the entire mood. Sushant donned a lovely beige kurta-pyjama with a floral Nehru jacket while Pratha looked like a princess in an elegant floral bustier which she paired with a vibrant pink lehenga and long cape.

The next day was the momentous marriage day. BKC’s MCA Club was chosen as the venue. A unique foliage mandap of lush leaves, twigs, branches and crystal strings was set up. Reusable plastic booths, eco-friendly placard signs and manure making machine were the noteworthy highlights of their wedding decor. Pratha looked like a dream in a stunning red traditional Sabyasachi saree which she paired with a light red veil and statement jewellery. Sushant looked no less in a rich ivory-hued sherwani from Toral Narang (Pratha’s mom’s label), and a subtle cream coloured safa.

And finally, the couple hosted their cocktail cum reception bash at Taj Santacruz which was an affair to remember. Pratha opted for a stunning grey gown while Sushant nailed his look in a chic grey suit and colour coordinating with his new wife. The evening was full of cheers, crafted spirits, genuine waves of laughter, fun dances and happy faces!

The Photographer

Being a photographer herself, Pratha was very keen to get the best onboard given her sense of aesthetics and style. She roped in the team at Gaatha. Pratha was extremely happy with their work and now shares a great friendship with the team. The couple recount having an absolute blast collaborating with them!

Rohan & Prarthana Delhi : ‘ When two hearts met in college they graduated to marriage a decade later!’

“True love is rare, and it’s the only thing that gives life real meaning.”  ― Nicholas Spark

Prarthana and Rohan’s love story blossomed in a rather interesting college setup. She once walked into the college auditorium to watch a live debate and there she saw Rohan on stage debating, articulating and firmly expressing his views. They soon became friends and continued to hang out together. Needless to say over the years they graduated from being the best of friends to the best of lovers, growing up with each other for nearly a decade now!

Prarthana gives voice to her feelings for Rohan and says, “ Being around each other is the most natural feeling in the world for us. We’ve grown up together, through college and adulting, travelling the world and moving across continents. We make the best memories when we’re travelling and experiencing new places and food together (Japan, Greece, Austria and Hungary were a few of our favorites). Also, he makes the most bomb gingerbread pancakes – the day he first made them for me, I thought “he’s a keeper” ;)”

The Proposal

Rohan’s proposal for Prarthana is another heart-warming extension of their sweet story. Little did Prarthana know that her special one was not just inviting her home for a casual dinner one evening but had the most thoughtful and touching proposal planned for her! Prarthana recalls,

“ I went to his place for dinner one day after work and when I entered, all the furniture was pushed to the walls, it was dark, there were candles everywhere and in the middle, a scrapbook of some of our best memories over the years at the end of which he popped the question. It was the intimate proposal I always wanted.’’

Isn’t this adorable!

The Wedding

This couple surely knows the importance of time. After being together for nearly ten years, they wanted their marriage to be a beautiful ode to all those lovely treasures of moments and at the same time make it an unforgettable experience for their near and dear ones. Hence these two love birds took a whole year to plan every detail of their wedding!

Rajan & Shifali Mumbai : ‘When an arranged match turns into a meaningful lockdown marriage’

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”- When Harry Met Sally

Shifali and Rajan were introduced to each other by their respective families and seemed to develop a strong liking towards each other instantly. They didn’t waste much time and gave the go-ahead to their families to take things to the next stage. Hence, a grand roka followed by multiple dates soon after and this lovely couple found themselves to be madly in love with each other! In short, theirs is a sweet, old-school and a happy love story.

The Proposal

There was no elaborate proposal as such in Shifali and Rajan’s case. They both knew they enjoyed being around the other and wanted to spend the rest of their lives with each other. All they did was convey their desire to get hitched to their loving families.

The Wedding

Shifali and Rajan were all set to tie the knot in a lavish Big Fat Indian wedding manner, but all their plans came to a standstill ever since the lockdown was imposed. Thankfully for them they had their pre-wedding shoot weeks before the lockdown was imposed on account of the severity of the situation! However, to rid themselves and all of the uncertainty of the future, they decided to take the leap and instead get married at home in the presence of their closest ones! And that was the beginning of their intimate and beautiful wedding.

Friends and family joined hands in helping them make the necessary arrangements for their big day. References came as a boon in such times and the couple managed to source all the things needed in the nick of time. They had a close-knit haldi and mehendi at home. Shifali kept it simple in a yellow kurta for her haldi and opted for a gorgeous red salwar suit for her mehendi. Even though these events were nothing like what they had planned, they were overwhelmed with all the love, support and sheer fun they had with their folks at these pre-wedding functions.

Shifali and Rajan found outfits on Instagram! And then what, they were ready to rock in their designer nuptial ensembles for the big day. Shifali donned a stunning pink lehenga from Royalista. Local artists were roped in to do the hair and makeup for her. Rajan looked no less in a colour coordinated pink sherwani and complimented his soon-to-be-wife perfectly!

It was indeed a memorable though unexpected experience for all. And the couple couldn’t be happier receiving all the blessings and support showered to them by their loved ones over zoom!

The couple only hopes that they can throw a reception bash once things are back to normal and rock in their custom-made outfits, pose for perfect pictures with their extended squad and celebrate the end of the lockdown all in one!

Rahat & Gloria Pathankot : ‘When two art-enthusiasts fell in love, they sketched their path to marriage’

“Become aware that love is an art, just as living is an art” – Eric Fromm

Gloria and Raahat’s love story is as filmy as you can imagine! These young art enthusiasts met each other at a painting workshop organized by the world-famous visionary artist Amanda Sage in LA and felt an instant connection on seeing each other! After the workshop, they exchanged numbers and stayed in touch. A few weeks later, they caught up for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. Some more meetings and exchanges followed and they intuitively knew what they have is something very special.

Things had just begun on a great note and these two lovebirds had started painting the town with their love that Rahat had to return to India for a work commitment. Hence their love story now witnessed six months of a long-distance commitment and yet the distance was only physical as they kept going stronger with each passing day. Six months later, Gloria moved continents and landed in India to be with the man of her dreams! And the rest is history.

Didn’t we say this was straight out of a film?

The Proposal

An atypical proposal was waiting for Gloria. Initially, Rahat proposed marriage to her soon after they started seeing each other! This came as a surprise to Gloria and she thought he was joking around, but he kept asking. And finally there came a time when she took him seriously and gave the nod! Gloria recounts this fond memory and says, “  I left India in April 2019 to organize an international Art Exhibit in Spain. As I was preparing for my return he asked me again, I said yes and we had our engagement ceremony just a few days after I landed back in India in June.”

The Wedding

Gloria and Rahat had planned an elaborate cross-cultural wedding in India which was to be attended by all their close family and friends. However, on account of the global situation courtesy the pandemic, they decided to not postpone their nuptials further and with the blessings of their near and dear ones to get married at home!

Hence began the preparation for their super intimate, memorable and meaningful home wedding. They had a small haldi and mehendi function with only Rahat’s family. Relatives managed to get a panditji on board and the bride and groom chose sourced their outfits from local designers and zeroed it down via facetime! Gloria’s stunning red attire was from Jaamawar Minx. She says, “They saved my life! We face-timed to go over their options and I fell in love with the red dress as soon as I saw it, and didn't even think twice about it. I sent my measurements and they delivered my dress just 3 days before our ceremony.”

Rahat opted for a decent kurta pyjama from Studio Urbanity. He sent images of what he wanted and they managed to put something together in just 3 days and delivered his outfit a day before the ceremony.

Though this was nothing like the kind of marriage they had envisioned, it was perfect nonetheless! The best part was seeing all of their loved ones from across India, US, Costa Rica, Canada, London and Australia join them in via zoom. Gloria expresses her emotions and mentions, “ It was all very emotional and uniquely special. The way everything perfectly fell into place and the energy we felt that day was absolutely beautiful. We are very grateful.”

Darshan & Naiya Mombasa : Two ‘Dil hai Hindustani’ NRI Souls who Became One!

The Beautiful Wedding Story

This is the magical story of the lovely couple Darshan and Naiya, both NRIs residing in Uganda & Kenya respectively, who met at their friend’s wedding in 2014 but parted ways. A second meeting brought them together again where they became friends and stayed friends for a long time. Darshan’s brother even prophesied their wedding! And finally, they both transformed into a couple (much to Darshan & Naiya’s joy), deciding to spend eternity together. Their wedding was held at Nyali Resorts, Mombasa, Kenya.

Naiya, a hotelier from Nairobi and Darshan, an industrialist from Uganda, are both Gujaratis. They have settled in ‘Pardes’ as many Gujaratis call it, with shudh desi hearts, something that shone through all the ceremonies they hosted, be it the sangeet, the mehndi, or the Holi pool party. They combined both Indian and African traditions and rituals in their wedding.

The wedding festivities kicked off with an African themed party. Balancing their African roots with their Indian heritage, the event had enthralling performances showcased by African dancers. Naiya and Darshan were decked up in traditional African attire, having an absolute blast with friends and family, as they danced the night away. It was a rocking party where all the guests let loose and had the best time!

After an amazing party on their first day of celebrations, the second day was no less than a festival! What started as a Haldi-applying ceremony, soon saw many more colors thrown in. So much so that Naiya’s attire which was “Rani pink and yellow” had now turned into a colourful canvas. Ankit wore a yellow kurta which by then no one could make out what colour it originally was! It was more like playing Holi than a formal haldi ceremony. The couple and the guests then  reached the pool where the air lit up with an array of colors, as people drenched each other in water and played Holi to their heart’s content.

True to their party animal spirits, the merriment continued throughout the day. Guests played in the pool enjoying themselves into the evening. This was followed by the Sangeet ceremony, with yet another round of party, but this time a DJ party! Naiya looked stunning in her floor length sequence and zardosi work lehenga. Since she wore such heavy attire she kept the jewellery simple with diamond and kundan choker and jhumkas. Darshan too looked very handsome in his heavily embroidered skin-toned bandhgala sherwani. The decor was majestically done with fairy lights wrapped around the trees. Dance floor was light with lights and a proper Gujrati style decor of “Garba chattris” made up the background. Everyone enjoyed the evening to the fullest.

Finally the D-day arrived and the beautiful couple turned up in color coordinating outfits as they walked down the wedding Mandap. The Palatial look of the Venue, with the attires worn by the guests, gave a major feeling of royalty. Naiya wore a heavy red lehenga which had intricate embroidery of a baraat on the lehenga. It definitely looked very regal with designs such as a groom mounted on an elephant to get his bride and dholis playing dhol. Darshan wore a traditional sherwani with golden and red embroidery work along with a maroon stole which had beautiful golden patchwork.

With the Varmalas exchanged and vows said, they were officially pronounced man and wife! The Vidai, as Naiya rightly puts it, “should be seen as a happy affair, for although you are moving away from your family, you are also moving towards the life of your dreams, with the person you love” Their group picture after the wedding itself shows how the couple is beaming with happiness!
