We found some aww-worthy wedding speeches, examples from brothers and best-men that are a perfect mix of sweet, rough and real. Let these wedding speeches inspire you to make your bride-to-be sister or groom-to-be brother’s wedding celebration a tad bit more fun and love filled!

Rahul to his brother Veer

Rahul to his brother Veer

Play station nights, burger eating competitions, football in the rain and late night drives – through all of these times Veer and I got so comfortable in each other’s company even Serena and Venus Williams would be jealous! I still remember the first time he told me about Zaara, he was subtly shivering – and I just couldn’t figure out why. But once he started telling me about her more and more, I looked up at him and asked “Dude, are you in love?” and all he did was nod in the happiest way. From then on, I have been so honoured to be a part of this journey you guys are on. And even though the game nights are gonna be less frequent, it’s okay but just know that I will be crashing your dinner dates every once in a while to catch up on some Veer time!

Amir to his Sister Reena

Amir to his Sister Reena

Growing up with Reena as my sister, I felt such a huge sense of responsibility towards her, even though I was the younger one. I always wanted to protect her, make her laugh and be her confidant – and slowly, overtime as we grew up, our relationship grew leaps and bounds too. We’ve shared so many special moments, secretly sneaked out for chocolate in the night and been each-other’s best friends through the best and the worst. It’s gonna be really hard not waking up to her loud singing voice or bugging her to get out of the bathroom quickly – but I’m gonna try my best not to sneak into your new house to do that. Ravi and Reena I am so happy that you two found each other. Ravi – you are one lucky, lucky guy! Reena is patient, kind, a little OCD but the biggest reason why she’s awesome is because Reena makes the best biryani in the world!

Neil to his brother Nikhil

Neil to his brother Nikhil

Everyone knows Nikhil to be a stud. Always popular among the ladies, a pro at sports with a passion for work that can take over the world. But little do you know about the softie side of him. (Here comes the embarrassing part) believe it or not – He loves to bake and sing Beyoncé in his free time. He writes poetry and secretly watches ChickFlicks at home with his mum. Okay, this might not be entirely true haha, but Nikhil is one amazing guy and Tanya, you are so lucky you get to be with him! May your lives be filled with never-ending happiness, football game nights and loads of love!

Kabir to his sister Rhea

Kabir to his sister Rhea

Rhea has always been the princess of the house. Pampered, spoilt, she always got what she wanted. I’ll have to admit, being the big brother I was always a little jealous but spoiling her was always at the top of my list. Rhea is the kind of girl whose eyes are full of excitement, hands are always ready to help and feet that will go the distance for you. Even with her pampered princess-like nature, she has grown to balance out the sassy lady she is and the humanitarian side of her beautifully. I’m gonna miss being around her and all her shenanigans but it’s a small price to pay to see her soar even greater heights with Eric right by her side!

Varun to his sister Ritika

Varun to his sister Ritika

Ritika, hm. Where do I begin? Okay, let’s take it back 10 years ago when I found you crying in your room when Dad refused to get you a puppy. I think that was the first real kind-of-grown-up conversation we had – and from that no-puppy day sulking to seeing you here today, as a beautiful bride, I can’t feel anything but pride. You have grown to be a strong, driven woman who doesn’t let circumstances pull you down and I cannot wait to see all that you and Darren achieve as individuals and together as a team too.

Watch Out: How Laser Cut Wedding Invitations are Taking Over Indian Weddings

‘First impression is the last impression’ – Stands true when it comes to wedding invitations.

The new day and age of e-invites and Facebook page invites has still not stolen the wind when it comes to traditional printed wedding invites. There’s something about the paper, the color, the gold and red lettering and the leaflets inside, that glamourizes the idea of a true blue wedding invite which no technology enabled solution can match. And when it comes to Indian weddings, not sending a printed invite is a bit ‘shaan ke khilaaf’ when it comes to close family and far-off relatives.

The point of wedding invitations is to make people block their dates for your special day and actually make it to your celebration. You also end up creating a memento and saving a memory in a physical format. So it’s a win-win there.

While researching for the latest trends on wedding invitations, we spent a lot of time bucketing over our go-to resource Pinterest. All that we came across were laser cut wedding invitations. Gazillions of them, which made it almost hard for us to choose the best!

From simple to intricate styling these laser cut wedding cards are a breath of fresh air, completely unique, lightweight and special in their own way. Whether you’re planning a vintage themed wedding, royal wedding or an elegant Christian wedding, there’s a plethora of designs you can use to impressively announce your wedding.

So, this week we bring to you some of the unique inspirations we’ve seen out there for your very special laser cut wedding invite.

No-Fuss Ways to Figuring Out Short Hair Styles For Your Indian Wedding

Scenario 1

Bride: Should I go for an updo, a chignon or waterfall braids? Oh wait! I just chopped off my hair for summer and I don’t think it’s going to grow that long for my winter wedding!” Damn, what do I do?!

Scenario2

Mom of bride (in a matter of fact tone): Beta, now that you are engaged, can you please start growing your hair? This crew cut that you people think is so cool, may not be the best match to your bridal lehenga.”

Bride (annoyed and irritable): But mom, he likes the crew cut. And I like the crew cut. Can’t we reverse the solution and I just wear an outfit that suits my current hairdo?

Mom of bride (exasperated – Hands to head) Beta, do you want to arrive at your wedding mandap in torn denims or camouflage harems?

Bride (bored): Why not?

Mom of bride: Has a nervous breakdown

Weddingz Advice – SHOUTOUT to all Indian brides and grooms: No better day than your wedding day to express your love in your own words. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I vow to love and care for you as long as we both shall live. I take you with all your faults and strengths as I offer myself to you — with all my faults and strengths. I vow to help you when you need help and turn to you when I need help. I vow to choose you, every day, over and over, in good times and bad. And with this ring, I take you to be my lawfully-wedded wife, my constant friend, my partner-in-crime, and my love from this day forward.

Promises scare me. Maybe I’m too cautious in making them, fearing that changes in circumstance or changes in myself will take the ground out from under me someday. But promises can remind me of solid ground when things seem shaky. Here are the promises I can joyfully give you: I promise to be honest and not just superficially honest. I promise to show you the deep truth about who I am. I promise to listen, especially when it’s hard, because that’s when I most need to hear what you have to say. I promise to notice the gifts you give me and to appreciate them: your kisses, your kindness, your patience, your humour, your effort. I promise to take care of myself and let you help take care of me. I promise to encourage you to take care of yourself and help take care of you however I can. I promise to invest in us, all the work and all the risk, because I can see the rewards every day. I promise to be your partner, half of a team, working toward the same goal: happiness, together.

Wedding Guest List: 8 Little Changes that’ll make a Big Difference

When it’s an Indian wedding in conversation, remember – you cannot please everyone. Amongst the close family and friends, second and third removed cousins, distant relatives, friends of friends, building buddies, co-workers, co-workers from the old office and then some, there will always be someone who will either feel offended or just happen to miss out on making the cut to your guest list. Even though you have a mental list in your head of who gets invited to your wedding, wait until your parents come up with their lists.

Wedding Guest List: 8 Little Changes that’ll make a Big Difference

Here are some simple solutions to wedding guest list dilemmas that most Indian couples are bound to come across.

My groom’s family is as huge as the cast of Hum Saath Saath Hain, but they aren’t paying for most of the wedding cost, my parents are – How do we split the guest list?

My groom’s family is as huge as the cast of Hum Saath Saath Hain, but they aren’t paying for most of the wedding cost, my parents are – How do we split the guest list?

The best and easy way out of this sticky situation is to split the wedding guest list in 3 parts –guests of the bride’s side, guests of the groom and guests of the couple. If the groom’s parents insist on adding more guests than the number of people they can invite to the wedding, a polite request stating they need to kick in some cash should be pronounced right away. If they don’t budge, the couple will then have to resort to opening up their big heart and downsizing their guest list.

Do we have to invite all of our guests to our mehndi, sangeet, wedding ceremony and reception?

Do we have to invite all of our guests to our mehndi, sangeet, wedding ceremony and reception?

No. It’s not that a big deal to invite people only to the reception and not the other functions. Indian weddings are expensive and the modern generation understands that. However, the oldies do tend to get a bit offended. So be wise on how you send out your invitations. Mark on your finalized guest list who will be invited only for the reception and not the ceremony or mehndi and sangeet. Be sure that your invites clearly mentions detail of only the events you want these guests to attend – aka leaflet invites. You can insert the right leaflet for the right function to the right guest. Confused? Alternatively, you can invite some guests who are not super close, to the pre wedding functions and skip inviting them to the wedding and reception. The folks from the old job might qualify in this category. It’s important to convey to the guests why you’re having a low key pre-wedding festivity or wedding ceremony and politely invite them for the reception.

Sharmaji ka beta invited us for his wedding. I don’t even know them that well. Do we have to invite them to our wedding?

Sharmaji ka beta invited us for his wedding. I don’t even know them that well. Do we have to invite them to our wedding?

Such a stuffy situation is called reciprocal entertaining. With Indian weddings being centred around ‘entertainment, entertainment and entertainment’ there seems to be no escaping such a scene. Let’s give you a simple way out of this. And this is general advice, not restricted to Sharmaji ka beta. If you’ve attended a recent wedding and know the person really well, they easily squeeze in to your wedding guest list. But if you’re having an intimate wedding, then a person who may not be super close can be stricken off. To avoid an awkward situation, let your mutual friends/family members know who’s being invited and who’s not.

A random gift just showed up at my door congratulating me for my engagement from someone we haven’t considered inviting for our wedding. Do they make it to our wedding guest list too?

A random gift just showed up at my door congratulating me for my engagement from someone we haven’t considered inviting for our wedding. Do they make it to our wedding guest list too?

No, they don’t. What lengths people go through for a wedding invite! Their effort of sending out a gift visibly states that they care for you. Somewhere sneakily they might be anticipating a wedding invite. In a situation like this, first try to find out who this individual is close to. If it’s your dad’s laughter club buddy, get advice from dad whether or not you should invite him to your wedding. If sending out an invite to him means inviting all the other members of his laughter club then you definitely will be struggling to laugh hard at your wedding. But this one requires some sensitively.

Do we allow wedding plus ones?

Do we allow wedding plus ones?

If your friend has been dating this girl/guy just for a year or less– Not invited.

Couples with whom either of you are not good friends with – Not Invited.

If the couple has publicly declared their engagement or marriage announcement – Invited.

The situation can be tricky, but its best to prepare your friends for the idea of why their plus ones, can or cannot make it to the wedding. Express your concern that the numbers to the event are limited. They are your best pals, so don’t even think for a second that they will feel offended and take this invite thing too personally.

Family friends were invited for Pooja didi’s wedding. But all they did during the celebration was behave overtly rude, complain about the arrangements, crib about the food being not so yummy and criticize every little element. Can we not invite them for my wedding?

Family friends were invited for Pooja didi’s wedding. But all they did during the celebration was behave overtly rude, complain about the arrangements, crib about the food being not so yummy and criticize every little element. Can we not invite them for my wedding?

You would expect us to say ‘No, don’t invite them’ – right?! We think otherwise. Not inviting such negative naggers is only going to make things worse. You invite them and handle them calmly with responses that don’t hurt you neither offend them. For instance, if they crib about the sad music selection you have at your sangeet, respond to them politely saying this is the latest hit sangeet song and encourage them to shake a leg or two. This way they don’t get the desired response of ruining your mood and will eventually give up on being so fussy.

I’m friends with all my co-workers, will it be considered rude if I invite just a few and not all to my wedding?

I’m friends with all my co-workers, will it be considered rude if I invite just a few and not all to my wedding?

Rules to follow:

Don’t mention you are getting hitched at your office or any other extra-curricular activity group you attend.

If you do, don’t discuss your wedding plans openly.

If you do, discuss general wedding planning topics without divulging details of your own.

Keep chanting the mantra ‘it’s a small wedding’ to any and every one anticipating a wedding invite.

Invite only the ones whom you discuss you wedding plans in detail (that too out of office).

Make sure you invite your boss/group leader/instructor whom you work closely with for political reasons.

Do I include my co-worker’s spouse in the wedding guest list too?

It is considered rude not to include their spouses, which leads to most of them not attending your wedding. It is a standard custom to include the spouses, but if you’re facing budget constraints reduce the number of co-workers who can make it to the wedding.

At the end of it all – It’s your day! Who makes it to the guest list or not is the last things that should bother you on your special occasion. Celebrate the big day with people whose presence will make a great difference at your wedding. The rest are just optional.
